Video maker. Little is known about Mount Allison-trained Watt, a student of Colin Campbell and a prolific video artist on the Toronto scene between 1972 and the mid-eighties, focusing primarily on experimental conceptual work. His early White on Black, Black on White (1972, 35) is catalogued evasively at Vtape as using “the body as a painting tool for sculptural body forms.” But Richard Fung found it “homoerotic and sensual,” showing black and white men’s nude bodies lying on top of each other until, thanks to their hands smearing paint over each others’ skin and crevices, “everyone’s switched colour.” A 1974 work features the artist’s girlfriend.
