Jan Padgett

Documentarist, animator, writer. Activist in the rural Vancouver Island film community and queer support network, children’s literature/film specialist Padgett was responsible for two of the imaginative anti-homophobia trigger films in the NFB “Celebrating Diversity” package of 2002: Sticks and Stones (2001, 17) and In Other Words (2001, 25), for elementary and high school students respectively. She also collaborated with queer native actor Evan Adams in directing Kla Ah Men (2003, 88), a documentary shot around her Powell River base about the latter’s Sliammon First Nation community, intended as an intervention in the B.C. treaty crisis of the 2000s.
