As much an act of mourning as an exploration of the grieving process Threnody: A Wailing Song for Carl is a tender tribute to a friend of the filmmaker who died of an AIDS-related illness. But the video is also a critique of the dominant ideological construction of AIDS that seeks to overcome and confront negative effects with more positive ones.
