Synopsis

Christine Chung’s first short film Falling for Caroline tells the story of Darcy, a movie buff and hopeless romantic, who falls in love with a girl named Caroline while fighting over a Sarah Waters (author of the seminal contemporary pulp lesbian novel Tipping the Velvet) book in a store. In order to win the girl of her dreams, Darcy must overcome her shyness, which usually leads to extreme clumsiness, and her “bad lesbian habit” of over-processing the good things in her life. Thanks to its good timing and great script, the film was a critical success and received many prizes in queer film festivals all around North America, notably the Audience Award for Best Short Film at Rochester’s ImageOut Festival and at Image+Nation in Montreal.
