Synopsis

In order to dissect the historical and contemporary representations of the black female body and subjectivity, Blu In You stages a conversation between visual arts curator Andrea Fatona and writer Nalo Hopkinson. Shifting the discussion between various themes and time periods, the women explore cultural history of violence, spectacularization,[1] and the gaze before moving onto some of the most recent debates that have emerged in the fields of performance and visual arts. But Mohabeer put their conversation under scrutiny as a third woman, artist Melanie Smith, observes them and repeats their discussion to the camera.
