In his 2003 video Banana Boy, Chow reflects on the notion of belonging by recounting his life from his arrival to Canada, in 1989, to his coming out. Chow, a queer-identified first-generation Chinese-Canadian explores his own multiplicity in order to understand his place and to find his freedom. The title of the film is a direct reference to the often-cite cliché description of Chinese-Canadian: yellow on the outside, white on the inside.
