Biography

Performance artist, video maker. Wednesday Lupypciw was born in Calgary, where she still resides today. The Alberta College of Art and Design graduate describes her own practices as "chaotically overlapping video and performance." Her work explores the tense area between having a desire and fulfilling it, whether sexual, political or financial. In Tranzar É Pras Amantes : Sex is for Lovers, the artist examines her own desire to be home both as a Brazilian living in Canada and as a Canadian going to Brazil. Some of her videos also engage with the artist's interest in fiber art by creating strong social commentaries through the powerful aesthetic connections formed by different fibres. Since 2006, along with artist Anthea Black and Nicole Burisch, she is a member of LIDS (The Ladies’ Invitational Deadbeat Society) in Calgary, a feminist group created to counter the depressive unemployment episodes of cultural workers.
