Biography

Director, scriptwriter. Born in Port Coquitlam and trained at Vancouver’s Langara College theatre program Studio 58, Bell surprised with his first feature Two Brothers (2000, 60), an unusual DVD marketing success story that used the $545 budget as a publicity ploy. Shown internationally in queer community festivals, the intense melodrama about sibling conflict—gay vs. straight, country vs. city mouse—feels soapish with every issue lined up, from AIDS to alcoholism. But Bell pulled it off through sincerity, fine performances, and black-and-white urban realism. Bell has served with Out on Screen.
