Biography

Documentarist. Moncton- and Dalhousie-trained Acadian d’Entremont, a Halifax-based Radio-Canada director, is familiar to queer audiences primarily for his tender and lyrical film on identity and difference, Seuls, ensemble (Alone, together, NFB, 2000, 25). D’Entremont’s portraits of a gay man’s and an adopted woman’s search for roots and belonging are parallelled with each other in the context of questions of Acadian community and heritage. The result is one of the more quietly seductive queer documentaries from the Atlantic region. Also with the NFB, his human rights PSA short Une dernière chance(2009, 3) follows five LGBTQ asylum-seekers fighting to stay in Canada in order to escape homophobic violence in their home countries.
