Critic, programmer, actor. McGill-trained, Toronto-based Davies has been an influential programmer for both TIFF and Inside Out, as well as a juror for queer film festivals both at home and abroad. As frequent film critic for Xtra! since the late 1990s, he is known for his broad cinematic culture, reliable taste and unflinching hype avoidance. In a former life, Davies was known for key roles (pseud. Klaus von Brucker) in Bruce LaBruce’s No Skin Off My Ass (1991) and Super 8 ½ (1994). The “These Boots Are Made for Walking” dance and bathtub sex scenes in the former film alone guarantee a place in this book, if not immortality.
