Biography
Video maker. Halifax-bred, NSCAD-trained Verabioff’s work was visible as part of the Toronto and Halifax queer video scenes in the 1980s, before facetiously abjuring in 1991 further art production and relocating to Northern California. Based in Los Angeles from his mid-career, exhibiting in both solo and group interdiscplinary art shows. Influenced by music video and frankly erotic in his sensibility, Verabioff’s most popular of a half dozen tapes was Crossing the 49th (1985, 10), a whimsical and colourful play on the iconography of sexual patriotism and the conceit of “queer nation” before its time.
