Filmmaker, teacher. US-bred Siegel has taught filmmaking and made personal independent films, sometimes more documentary than experimental and sometimes vice versa, since the seventies in Montreal and most recently in Ottawa. Known for her zany humour and taste for the exceptional as a social observer, queer-friendly Siegel was familiar to queer communities, especially for her Lip Gloss (1993, 75), a full-length cinéma vérité exploration and oral history of Montreal’s legendary world of drag club performance and trans identities, taxed by some with voyeurism but valued by historians as a document of a disappearing world.
