Biography

Curator, critic. Toronto-based, U. of T.- and Concordia-trained Czach was an important force in the early years of Inside Out, and led a successful lobby to maintain Toronto Metro Council funding for the beleaguered festival. From 1990 to 1995 Czach also programmed at the Pleasure Dome, Toronto’s edgy indie venue, the home of innovative year-round queer lineups. Starting in 1995 Czach was programmer for Perspective Canada at TIFF, collaborating with David McIntosh in support of up-and-coming queer auteurs from Greyson to Lepage (though lesbian features emerged more slowly), and thus reinforcing a local queer film culture that resonated from the metropolis to the hinterland and abroad.
