Leif Harmsen

Interdisciplinary/web artist, filmmaker, writer, anti-censorship activist. Trained at Concordia and the University of London, Leif Harmsen has been a hyperactive stalwart of the downtown Toronto Super 8/arts/sex radical scene since the late nineties. His quirky personal/experimental miniatures circulated in many arts/queer film spaces. Among them, Electrical Discharge (1999, 1, with Greg Woodbury) is a miniature riff on two guys with electrical jitters leading to a climactic kiss; Cruising (1999, 7) is a frenetic 6-frame-per-second appropriation of Toronto downtown and island urban space for the titular activity; Penetration (2001, 10) is jubilant and inspired meta porn where queer and non-queer come together.
