Biography

The Halifax Lesbian, Gay & Bisexual Video & Film Festival,” organized by filmmaker Michael Weir in collaboration with the Centre for Art Tapes, offered a bold week-long programme in June 1992. Rich in local fare such as Thom Fitzgerald’s early work, the 1992 festival led to the followup Peggy’s Film Festival in 1993, affiliated with Pride activities. But the Nova Scotia capital was thereafter able to sustain only localized and one-off manifestations of queer film and video, based in artist run centres or local universities.
