Dayna McLeod
Videomaker, performance artist. Alberta-bred, Concordia-trained McLeod is well known in the Montreal queer performance milieu as the pruriently-costumed “beaver girl.” Her five comic short videos since 1998, often built around McLeod’s on-screen monologues, have brought the house down at queer festivals around the world. The prizewinning How to Fake an Orgasm (whether you need to or not) (1999, 9) is the ultimate how-to video, delivering McLeod’s carefully systematic instructions and glib asides through a particularly, in-your-face, kinetic relationship with the lens. Watching Lesbian Porn (2001, 11) throws in satirical asides about the “issues” raised by women’s studies as well as lurid but coy background shenanigans, including much shrieking, thwacking and assorted accessories.
