Biography

Toronto’s Transsexual, Intersex and Transgender Film/Video/Arts’ Festival was founded in 1998 by activist/artist Mirha-Soleil Ross, in recognition of the distinctive cultural and economic situation of trans communities. Taken over in 2002 by multimedia artists Boyd Kodak and Cat Grant for its most recent rendition, at the U. of T., the event billed itself as the largest trans festival in the world and offered a rich multi format lineup. Kodak’s and Grant’s own lively media work includes The Misadventures of Pussy Boy (2001, 4) as well as the well known activist video broadside Shadsmith Manzo Performance (1998, 6), about the eponymous Mexican-Canadian trans community activist deported that year into a Mexican context marked by murdered transgendered women, and the campaign to bring her back.
