Biography
Director. Montreal-bred, Ryerson-trained Deacon presented several short comic fiction films within the queer festival circuit in the 1990s, including Twisted Sheets (1996, 14), a well-crafted comedy about a scriptwriter exacting lesbian revenge on her unfaithful boyfriend by stealing his new girlfriend, and the Genie-winning Moving Day (1998, 23; TIFF), about a heterosexual couple in crisis. Queer-friendly Deacon’s earlier drama Between Friends (1991, 13) treated the subject of women and AIDS, and she also established television credits in the US and Canada, including Degrassi: The Next Generation.
