Chelsea McMullan

See Spoon, Rae. Filmmaker. The Canadian documentary filmmaker started her collaboration with the NFB in 2009 with Deadman and met her now frequent collaborator, Rae Spoon, when she asked for the rights of one of their songs for the film. McMullan has since created a strong visual presence to accompany Spoon's discography. In 2013, they released the NFB documentary musical My Prairie Home, a meditative and melancholic journey through Rae Spoon's life. Set against majestic images of the Canadian Prairies, Spoon sweetly croons us through their queer and musical coming of age. The film got its Canadian premiere at the Vancouver Film Festival in 2013 and its international premiere at Sundance in 2014. McMullan's work has a distinct theatrical aesthetic and most of her films engage with music one way or another.
