NSCAD-trained, Halifax-based Verrall was coordinator of the Centre for Art Tapes in 1992 when it hosted the first Halifax queer film festival. Her own contribution to the festival consisted of two evocative exercises in feminist experimentalism, Remembering Anna (1988, 10), and Natural Birth (1991, 10). In Anna, a reflection on history, memory and desire, an unidentified vintage photo portrait of an old woman sparks a time-travel encounter between the jeans-clad narrator and an unknowable ancestor in her lonely frame house and Edwardian skirt... and a fleeting touch that might be a fantasy flirtation.
