Carleton-trained architect-turned-filmmaker Hull works in both Germany and Toronto, and has provided several accomplished short narratives to queer and other showcases since the late nineties. Dizzy (1999, 19) reflects the author’s cosmopolitan base in its parable of a dizziness brought on by airports, lost luggage, barf bags and the childhood memories they evoke, and above all German boyfriends; That Thing We Do (2002, 16) is more about queer identity in middle-class Toronto, coming out at the cottage and finding a support network in childhood, this time real rather than remembered.
