Synopsis

A documentary about the diversity of lesbian identities. Dionne Brand, Nicole Brossard, Lee Pui Ming, Becki Ross, Julia Creet, LaVerne Monette, Sarah Schulman, Chris Bearchell, Chris Phibbs, Christine Delphy and Jeanelle Laillou speak frankly about issues ranging from the coming-out process, bisexuality, the evolution of the feminist and lesbian movements, compulsory heterosexuality, outing and racism. Including various and contradictory positions, Thank God I’m a Lesbian proposes a positive alternative to the mainstream portrayal of lesbian identities and while also trying to make sense of fluidity within the lesbian community. The editing of the film was done by the late Geraldine Peroni, a frequent collaborator of Robert Altman, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her editing work on The Player and who made a career as an editor switching from high-profil productions to smaller queer films.
