Biography

Director, writer, editor, multi media artist, teacher. ECIAD-trained Sherman teaches at Vancouver Film School, and is best known in the queer festival circuit for his meticulously crafted AIDS melodrama The Time Being (1997, 52). Within the small subgenre of the assisted-suicide narrative, Time Being is much more about the bereavement and lingering desire of Sebastian, the partner left behind, than about the choices of his late lover Michael. Their relationship and their support network are also vividly captured in simulated home video, and the affect is strong and honest. Sherman made more recently the prizewinning Go-Go Boy (Prelude) (2002, 13).
