Biography

Producer, administrator, editor. Ottawa-bred Stikeman trained in editing, research and directing at the NFB beginning in 1968 and cut her teeth in the social-action Challenge for Change programme before entering Studio D as director and editor in 1975. She left her mark on many internationalist feminist projects and is best known for having led the studio in its swan song years from 1990 until its 1996 shutdown, a period when it took huge strides toward cultural and sexual diversity (see Chapter 6). Stikeman has producer credit on many films in the lesbian canon, including Forbidden Love (1992) and Listening for Something (1996).
