Biography:

Director, scriptwriter, production coordinator. Toronto-based, CFC-trained Nicolaou is known on the queer community and mainstream festival circuits for her witty narrative shorts about lesbian coupledom, all luxuriously shot by queer-friendly cinematographer Kim Derko. Nicolaou’s films were based on strong performances and their titles speak volumes: Why I’ll Never Trust You (In 200 Words or Less) (1995, 11) and the award-winning Interviews with My Next Girlfriend (2001, 13) respectively are uneasily romantic and broadly comic takes on relationships and community. Dance With Me (1997, 9) is more lyrical and personal about generational relationships, ethnicity and pleasure among women within the family.
