Director, writer, producer, editor. Toronto-based Romilly was part of the LIFT network of queer young indies in the 1990s, contributing two stylized fiction shorts to the queer festival circuit before moving into music video: Alone (1996, 20), “an amazing ambitious video piece about violence, sexuality and shortness of vision,” according to Eye (10 July 1997), when the tape was programmed as part of a 1997 African-Canadian series; and Spent (1998, 27 , 16mm.), a noirish descent narrative, well-crafted and stylish, about a delusional bisexual young hunk who thinks he can manipulate and betray his tricks and his mother because he’s a secret agent.
