Biography
Sculptor, teacher, videomaker. Trained at Concordia and OCAD (where she went on to teach), Toronto-based Coburn is best known for such unsettling public art objects as her cunnilingus allegory “The Spirit of Canada Eating Beaver,” cast in bronze for Pride 2000. Her two videos circulated within artists’ spaces and queer community festivals in the early 2000s. My Heart Divine (2001, 4) was both part of Nikki Forrest and Nelson Henricks ’s enigmatic conceptual “heart” series and a fleshed-out, autonomous gloss on the ancient art of water dowsing, where the analogy between the divining rod and the strap-on seems highly metaphysical.
