Biography

Performance artist, curator, director, video maker. Miriam Ginestier is the artistic director of the Montreal-based Studio 303, a centre for dance and interdisciplinary art. A pillar of the Montreal queer scene, she has been a freelance cultural event organiser for the lesbian community for many years, a task that earned her the Arc-en-Ciel Award in 2003 for her contribution to the community. She was also responsible for the (greatly missed) lesbian monthly dance parties, Meox Mix, where she DJed as well. Her interdisciplinary approach and performance background appears in her video work, which mostly centers on her flapper alter ego, Fannie Nipplebottom. In Bonne Fête and Fannie dans le temps, both homages to silent film era, Ginestier puts her 1920s character in contemporary setting and explores the evolution of eroticism and sexuality through anachronism.
