Biography

Director. Trained at Mount Allison as well as Ryerson and OCAD, Thompson was part of Toronto’s LIFT queer film network in the late 1990s, when her four well crafted narratives made an impact on queer festivals. Her most accomplished work Switch (1999, 22, TIFF) was a skillfully periodized lesbian film noir set in 1949 Toronto’s underworld of telephone exchanges, race tracks, ambiguous cabarets and sudden escapes to Niagara Falls. In 2000 Thompson moved to Pittsburgh with her artistic and life partner, visual artist Simone Jones, where the two continued their creative collaboration.
